80 ULTRAS IN 80 DAYS
Sam King is a British ultramarathon runner who became known for completing 80 ultramarathons in 80 consecutive days, resulting in a Guinness World Record.
Sam originally set out to complete 74 ultramarathons in 74 days as part of Project 74, inspired by his mum Penny, who suffered a serious brain bleed in January 2025. The number 74 represented his mum's age at the time.
Each ultra was approximately 50 km (31 miles), meaning King was running an ultramarathon every single day for more than two and a half months.
But Sam didn't stop at 74. He continued for another six days, ultimately completing 80 ultramarathons in 80 consecutive days, which is around 4,000 km (2,485 miles)
The challenge was deeply personal. King’s mum, Penny, suffered a brain bleed, and Sam wanted to raise awareness and money for people affected by brain injuries.
He partnered with Headway UK, the brain-injury charity, and set an initial fundraising target of £74,000.
He eventually raised more than £86,000.
King started running in 2018, having previously been significantly overweight and heavily involved in gaming. King channelled his effort to endurance running and has thousands of people looking up to him.
We cannot wait to see what comes next.
